The project was created through a workshop at SCI-Arc, led under Florencia Pita. What followed were fabrication exercises that relied on analogue and digital means of working. This process included using photogrammetry software to extract facades of existing buildings in downtown Los Angeles. A method of defining these facades were created shortly after as either “surface” or “object”. Facades that formally fit in this category were used to create a tower. The use of object and surface melts the translation of form at each level for a hyper-real affect. The resolution of the facade is kept at the same scale as the extracted facades. The studio was focused primarily on the main tower model, and how fabrication techniques such as spray painting, joinery, and material can counter the high-resolution aspect of the tower and read form at other scales.
