sliding cabinet

In the course we investigated key principles in designing an architectural detail. For our detail we pursued the architectural detail as abstraction. Our detail was a cabinet detail that would be located at the top of a staircase. The cabinet would slide diagonally to follow the rise and run of this projected staircase – hence its name. The cabinet was an abstracted detail because of its minor details in both material finish and formal adjustments. The abstraction of the detail started from the handle, being the formal move that then creased and deformed the rest of the detail. When the handle is pulled what revealed is a secondary cabinet that is also parallel to the stair. The sliding mechanism is attached to bottom of this orange cabinet, which holds the steel shield.
